Hi Wayne, I work at a Saab dealership in VA. I did PDIs ( Pre-Delivery Inspection) this week on a couple 98 900s. In addition to the use of a hydraulic clutch, the 98 900 no longer uses has a SAI (Secondary Air Injection system) and it does have On-Board Vapor Recovery. The 94 - 97 clutch cables do break, but the repair is MUCH cheaper than replacing the clutch slave will be on the 98 ( ie. trans removal etc.). However as part of the PDI, I drive the cars and I must confess the clutch action on the 98 is much smoother and easier. The loss of SAI makes the car easier to work on because of the missing hardware( ie. Electric air pump that use to be by LF foglight and tubing in exhaust mainfold). The On-Board Vapor Recovery system is being phased in on all cars sold in the US over the next 3 model years. It is used to help cut down on HCs generated during refilling the fuel tank. Hope this helps, Steve Crowe CMAT/L1, Saab Certified Tech PS Saab will offer a turbo engine in the 900 S this year. This 3 door is suppose to be available for about $25K.
