SNIP We had a Mazda dealer move into town were the nearest other dealer was over fifty miles away. There weren't many Mazda's on the road in our area until the new guy opened his showroom. He stayed open for 2 or 3 years and then went belly up. I asked one of the sales guys, that now works at another dealer, what happened? He said that a dealer can't survive on sales alone but must have the repairs as well. Since there were few Mazda's around that weren't new, he couldn't keep the repair shop busy. I'm sure everyone who works for a car dealer will agree that the largest part of the companies profit comes from repairs. Detroit has put this "Haggle for a deal" mentality into everyone's mind when it comes to buying cars. If car companies would stop over producing and do away with all of the gimmicks like cash back and lower interest rates and just sell cars for what they are worth every dealer could make a buck and the consumer would pay less. When I bought my new car 2 years ago the salesman/salesmanager combo tried to jerk me around too. I told them I didn't need the car and then reminded them that there were 3 other dealerships close by as I walked out the door. When I got home there was a message on my answering machine saying they would sell me the car at my price. Anytime I go into a store, that is not owned by some conglomerate, I always ask for a discount from the price marked. I've gotten the discount most of the time, and when I do I always thank the person for the discount. I've never been tossed out of the store like Natalie was. Natalie, If I was you, I'd drive back to that dealer in your new car with the bill of sale and tell that "kindly, older salesman" to kiss my ass. Do it in front of his customers, he deserves that.
