The problems start when folks start using synthetics in older high-mileage engines that respond with increased consumption. I would put a couple three thousand on the motor before switching over; this will ensure that the rings have time to seat. Alfa Romeo started all of the 164 models with sythetics from the factory and paid for this with >1qt. per 1k miles consumption. I assume that you intend to keep the car long-term....
