Bought an '89 900S 3 door 4 years ago. Didn't notice 'til I put the back seat down for cargo space what an annoying whining noise the fuel pump makes. Went thru Saab USA for service/recall records - nothing reported there. Saab USA sent me to a local dealer - guy says it's normal. Other people say these Bosch pumps start screaming before they die - been screaming 4 years now... OK, so this thing needs to pump 100+ lbs of fuel to the engine - probably a good idea for an airplane - I don't expect to drive too far upside-down or do loop-the-loops! Anybody else have this experience - been able to resolve it? And the computer? It's mounted right over the exhaust pipe/converter area - got cooked when the heat shield (inverted rain gutter) rusted thru. There went a quick $900 +labor, +towing, +rental, +++...planned obsolescence?
