Depends on where the water pump is leaking from. If its the gasket, yes you can replace just the gasket, but if the pump has many miles on it or any play or roughness in its shaft, it would be to your benefit to replace it. The gasket would be rare to fail. The most frequent failure point is the seals in the pump. They will seep out a weep hole designed into the pump. This requires replacement. The most common causes of the seals failure, besides just wearing out, are coolant choice/neglect and overtightening of the belts and/or bad alternator bushings.
