My 1986 9000T does something similar, but it flickers when going over bumps. I've had two mechanics despair of this, one saying I had "SAAB cancer", referring to the electrical system generally. I've found that my entire instrument cluster is quite loose; I can get these lamps to go out by pushing on the face of it, but only temporarily. It has made me think it was "crying wolf" on one occasion, when one of the lamps really meant what it said and I ignored it as a failure. (I think that was a headlight.) It certainly seems to me to be a loose pin in a connector somewhere, but I'm not up to paying someone to track it down and fix it. It has never caused any other problems, to my knowledge.
