Walter has narrowed his choices to 3 very good autos. I doubt that Mercedes can offer the size, performance, and comfort that Saab and Volvo offer for anywhere near the same price. (Perhaps there's a leasing formula based upon residual value that might make the Mercedes more price competitive -- I just don't know.) I think one dealer in my former city (Chicago) got it just about right when he said (I'm paraphrasing): "Lots of similarities between Saab and Volvo buyers. Both want comfortable, safe, solidly built cars that will last many years if well maintained. But there's one major difference: the Saab buyer really has a passion for driving, while the Volvo buyer does not." In fairness, I should point out that the comment was made to me years before Volvo began making and exporting the front drive turbo -- certainly a lively, sporty offering. I've owned both Saab and Volvo, and liked both. Now have a Saab (91 convt, bought used) and like it very much. Good luck, Walter. Michael
