I have owned an 83 900T, an 87 900S and currently drive an 87 9000S. I cannot speak for the newer 900s, but on the older ones, if you turn the vent selector knob to any position, except off, fresh air would come in. The exception is if you depress the A/C button or recirc button. On my 9000S the econ button simply turns off the A/C compressonr. If I want fresh air I simply push the vent button. The fresh air coming in is either cooled by the A/C, if you want in auto, or heated if the temperature sensor in the car determines the air in the car is cooler than the temperature you have set on the auto control. If you want cool air take the temperature down as far as it goes. If you want heat keep it around 70. Ken W.
