I have an 88 900 turbo and have te same ticking problem..it seems to be some sort of valve noise and not "Knock" which is essentially from the pistons and rods. Does your ticking effect performance in any way?? I have not noticed any performance loss over it. Maybe a good valve job and head cleaning would fix it.
