I have a '96 9000 cs 5 speed, and have only had trouble with electrical functions. The seat heater switches blew twice already, the windshield washer pump is currently out, and I had an alternator replaced at 18K miles for some unknown reason. Otherwise, the car is tops, and tons of fun to drive. Mechanically, the '98 should be sound and trustworthy. Your pre-purchase inspection won't alert you to electrical problems, but the car should have a warranty still in place. I highly recommend the vehicle, unless you are so wary of car trouble that you're willing to drive a Hoda accord.
