Subject: Why 900 engine temp soo hot ?



I'm new to my 89 SAAB 900 Turbo. 

Why does the engine run soooo damn hot ? I sit in traffic - watch the temp
gauge come within a millimeter of the red zone ---- and then it drops -
only to repeat this pattern over and over. 

Any 900 Turbo owner comments - is this particular of the 900 turbo ?
