At first, the mechanic thought it had run out of coolant, and it was recharged. There was apparently a small leak. It worked for about two more days and died again. Turned out to be the condenser (the single most expensive part to replace, of course . . .). Sounds like it could be the compressor or condenser in your case as well, but check for leaks first.
