F. Hedenstierna > khedenstiernanopsamail.com Klas - I have never had the chain break but the timing chain tensioner on my late 1981 900 broke at 1400 miles (yes, brand new car). Luckily no head damage, etc., but it was an extremely expensive repair considering the part. I was mightly unhappy about it and let them know, but it didn't help me; the car was just out of 1200-mile warranty, no extended warranty, and I paid. The car also required a new exhaust every 30,000 miles like clockwork. However, I got 265,000 miles on the original clutch, and the car never required another engine repair.
