Stick your hand out of the window, or sunroof your choice! it gets cooler) In traffic the gauge runs 'hotter' because of decreased airflow (lower speeds, standstill perchance,=no/low airflow=poor cooling. Stick your hand out, it's the same as the radiator, except it doesn't solve the problem!!) As Colin rightly asks, is the radiator fan starting? Run the car at a fast idle, the fan should start before the needle goes into the red. If it doesn't join the two wires (use a paper clip, length of gash wire etc.) that attach to the fan thermostat (I think it's bottom left of the radiator, I can't remember!! check the manual) If the fan starts the thermostat is shot if it doesn't it's trace the wiring diagram time. See how you get on. You may just need to flush the system out (sediment in the radiator etc.) Simon Brighton England PS. Colin, have you got a spell checker??? :-)
