I just bought a used 89 convertible. I haven't replaced the top yet, but I remember my mechanic mentioning that he'd purchased a number of slightly flawed tops some years ago, for very little money, so he is able to replace some convertible tops for less than the average. He is at Absolute Saab in Encinitas, CA.
