'84 900S, 5spd, 2.0L, 160K+ miles. I recieved this vehicle several weeks ago with the complaint that "after not being able to start the car, it locked into reverse and will not shift into neutral [to allow another attempt to start]. " After a brief examination, I found that carbon buildup/contamination on the rotor points/cap probably contributed to the rough start. I am at a loss to repair, much less explain the lockup of the (manual) transmition in reverse. I checked the operation of the pull-up knob (which allows shifting from reverse) and checked to see if the car was in neutral or reverse. The reverse-shift-knob (on the stickshift) appears to be functioning, however the shifter seems to be stuck in between reverse and neutral. Although I have worked on cars for many years now (as a hobby), this is the first Saab I have had to work on. If I can get the transmition to shift again, I'm confident I can get the engine to run properly. Any clues would be most appriciated. Please send/Cc responces to mcanopsamport.com. thanx much. Mike
