Subject: Re: 900 vs 9000

I had an 83 900T for over 13 years and 251,000 miles. I picked up new at the factory in May 83. It was totalled by a two and half ton truck using me for a brake at a stop light. I moved on to an 87 900S, 16V. I had that for just over two years before wrecked it this past December. The last day of December I took possession of an 87 9000S. The car had 145,890 miles, is a five speed and has leather interior. As much as I loved both of my 900, I have fallen in love with the 9000 hatchback. It is quicker than the 5 spd 87 900S, even though the cars are the same year with the same engine. The transverse mount on the 9000 and different gearing makes it quick through the gears and faster at speed. In my 900s, 2500 rpm was 55 mph. In the 9000 2500 rpm is 60+. Running at about 3200 rpm is 70 +mph. The car has a different ride. It likes to run. I averaged just under 32 mpg for 575 miles on a recent trip. That included using the A/C, traffic congestion and stop and go driving. Ken Washington 87 9000s
