As much as I love the SPG, I actually miss the 9000 more than I thought I would... which isn't to say I regret selling it at all, because now my roommate is a Saab-freak too, and we have lots to talk about - not to mention the fact that I know it went to a good home! :) But - on the subject of the original topic... I would do some serious looking at Audi 4000s. They are not the world's most reliable car... I quite love them, especially the quattro, but the thing that has *always* kept me away from my dream car (a 1985 Audi Quattro 5-cyl turbo) is many claims of problems mid-80s Audis are subject to. I used to have the the URL of a great Audi site, but I've lost it... Do some looking - I'm sure it's still out there... Anyway, the two cars (9000 vs. 4000) are very different. The 9000 is slightly larger, more luxurious, faster, and more boring looking. The 4000 does have the availability of quattro going for it, but unless you've a specific use for it, more drivetrain components = more to break and to fix... Price is going to be the major consideration - you can easily find a nice 4000 for around $4000, or much less if you don't need perfection. The only 9000 you'll be able to find for that much (in good shape) will be an '86 or '87 9000 turbo, or an '87 or '88 9000S. You want to buy at least an '87 9000T, since that's the year they got a watercooled turbo... in '88 they got ABS. The best year is a 1990, but you could spend upwards of $7000 for one of those. '88 is the next best year, and they run for between $4000 and $6000 in great shape... Good luck! -Justin
