Subject: Re: 89 900T: Trunk Release Problem Continued!

Thanks folks for your suggestions on how to get my trunk opened. Unfortunately, I have a convertible and it is basically impossible to get into the trunk from the interior of the car. I have been able to remove the two license plate lights, and from there I can sort of kind of see various parts. I would like to know where the actual latching mechanism is, and how it works. Not where the key goes, but say where the actual pieces are that physically hook the trunk to the car body. So for instance, where are these pieces, are they "near" the key hole, or are they off to the side somewhere? Here is what I see: When I am behind the car, behind the trunk latch key hole, there are two license plate lights. Removing the lights lets me look up into the trunk. Above the right hole, I can see a bronze (?) rod with a 30 degree or so angle bend in it. It seems to me that if I move the bronze rod somehow I can get the trunk open. But I really can't tell if that bronze rod is important, and I can't tell in which direction to move it. Can someone look describe the trunk mechanism in a way that might clarify it to someone looking up at it from behind the car through two slots about 1/2 inch by 2 inches? Thanks!
