A 900 engine will *fit* it any year Saab 900 up until 1993 (1994 convertibles). 1979-1981 900 models have an older style engine, but the newer engine will still fit with a little work. Also, 16-valve engines use a pulsed injection system while 8-valve models use a constant injection system, and it's best to keep it that way - BUT any engine will work with any injection system. So, you can put a 16-valve engine in a car which originally had an 8-valve engine and vice versa. It will take a little work, but it can in fact be done. A 900 will not fit in a 9000 due to slightly different block and head configurations. Though the engines are fundementally the same, they are not quite identical. -Justin
