There is a little plastic (nylon) gear that fits over a shaft that has a flat spot on it. When you push the trip odometer reset button while you are moving the gear gets held staionary for an instant while the shaft continues to turn. This splits the gear. If the plasict is strong and the rest of the gears in the odo. turn easy it will work when the flat spot on the shaft and the flat spot on the gear line up again. I whill stop working when there is enough load on the gear to slid in off the flat spot. (That is why is won't turn over from 999.9 to 000.0 .. too many numbers to flip over. btw. going from 099.0 to 100.0 is the same number digits) The Free fix is to pull the speedo out and align the gear and the shaft then apply alittle nail polish / super glue. The Saab place that I got most of my parts from had a dish of the gears on the counter and you grabbed on if you needed one. The whole process is not difficult.
