Not all that hard at all... if it's a turbo, it's a little more complex, but on a non-turbo it's very straightforward. On a non-turbo you just need to remove the valve cover, remove the timing chain sprockets, remove the timing chain tensioner (which may require removing the a/c compressor bracket), pull the intake manifold off the head (leave it attached to the fuel rail and all that stuff), pull the exhaust off the head, and then pulling the head. If you've got a turbo all I can do is wish you luck maneuvering the exhaust manifold around... It can be done, but it isn't fun. You'll need a torque wrench and the torque specs on the head - let me know if you need these. I would also recommend buying a full gasket kit from the dealer - it'll run you about $100, and include the head, exhaust, and intake gasket as well as new cam follower oil delivery fittings, which are nice to replace. It also includes the valve cover gasket. Be sure to pick up some high-temp sealant (Ultra Copper is nice...) to reseal the valve cover around the distributor area. While it's all apart, it's not a bad idea to do the water pump and change the thermostat... it'll add $75 to the total cost and save you some trouble later... -Justin
