Subject: Re: Saab performance enhancements

Mike, it's actually the sport exhaust package that is manufactured by Saab. Of course, that means it's a little higher priced than a generic one ($495), but it has a lifetime warranty and does not nullify any existing warranties on the car since it's a Saab piece. It does sound a little different, but not like the loud, pingy annoying ones that teenagers are using on their Hondas. It has a modest exhaust tip, which after two days you'll be used to. I didn't believe it when I was told, but it does have a nice sound to it. It makes the car sound sporty, not fake. Also, it adds about 12-15 horsepower to the car and improves the gas mileage by about 1 mile per gallon. You can get the piece through a Saab dealer or through their accessories catalog. One other thing, I am using an air filter designed by K&N Engineering as well, which is a more breathable filter and is a lifetime filter (around $40). That adds about 5-8 horsepower as well. These have been pretty clean ways to make a nice improvement to the car's performance. I'd love to discuss performance enhancements with Saabs if anyone else has comments or experiences! I have a first series 900 turbo, and also am annoyed with the turbo lag around town. Out on the open road, the power is immediate, though. It's time to replace my muffler, but I don't want anything overly raucous. I'll post this request to the group as well as a question about tires. Thanks, Mike Z.
