Some standard answers are that it's the battery, starter solenoid or neutral safety switch. I bought a new battery and had my entire anti-theft device replaced last Fall. I thought it had cured the problem but it came back in the Spring with warmer weather. At the suggestion of others in the newsgroup I am now trying several unconventional things. I've just recently run a second 8 guage grounding wire from the negative terminal of the battery to the engine block (total cost US$4.50). After driving around with an ice pack on the cowl around the ignition switch (which seemed to help but didn't prevent the problem entirely) I removed the cowl. I bought a can of electrical component cooler (in the U. S. it's available at Radio Shack for US$6.95) and sprayed in and around the keylock when it failed to start. It didn't seem to help. After several minutes I sprayed at the far back end of the ignition switch where the electrical connections are and it started up. I don't know yet if it was because of the spray or just the passage of time (it almost invariably starts up at some point). It has also been suggested that we replace the electrical connection (US$50 for the part itself) to the keylock but I haven't tried that yet. I contacted SAAB headquarters in the U.S. and they just said to take it to a dealer. I would appreciate hearing what luck you have with the problem.
