Subject: Re: Are 900SE book values realistic?

I tried to buy a 1998 NG 900 Turbo Coupe in March 1998 after a catastrophic engine failure on my '89 900. Other than the $3000 factory incentive on the leftovers, the dealer would not budge $1 on price. That may have seemed like a good deal to some, but it was in sharp contrast to my last purchase at the same dealer where I got more than 8% off list plus a factory incentive. They could not get any of my first 3 color choices with a manual transmission. They had no decent used cars in stock. My service experience with them had been very good until the last few years, then it deteriorated badly. They have no competition. They are a multi-make dealership that recently added 3 new makes including VW and Nissan. The only other dealer within 50 miles was terminated by Saab for having too low a volume. I gave up and bought a Subaru. While I still own a '90 900, it has been much less reliable and more expensive to maintain (even allowing for inflation) than my 3 previous Saabs. I guess Saab and its dealers plan to replace former Saab customers with former BMW customers or something. I didn't abandon Saab, they abandoned me after 20 years as an exclusive Saab owner.
