I am a Saab owner ('83 900S) and I am now looking at an 86 9000T with 224000 miles. The car has been ridden hard and put up wet many times, it would appear, but seems to have weathered it well. The test drive revealed a God-awful creaking from the area around the front right shock tower. The noise occurs when first accelerating or first braking, as though the to-and-fro forces effect it. The seller believes it to be a strut problem but, personally, I believe it may be a bit more serious than that. The car accelerates and brakes in a straight line without pulling. The steering feels smooth. There is no evidence of physical damage to the frame, suspension, steering or driveaxles. I would prefer to do any required repairs/maintenance myself so include an ease of repair estimate with any ideas on the nature of this problem. My appreciation in advance for any thoughts. Darrell
