The light is there, or so the story goes, so that SAAB could get better EPA
milage estimates for the 5-speed.  The automatic knows when to shift for
good milage, but lots of people I know don't.  I also found it was a bit of
a nuisance for a while, but you get used to it.  Besides, if it wasn't for
that light, I wouldn't know that my 9000 could do 42MPH in 5th gear!
