Subject: Re: Idle/APC tuneup on 84 900T

>Congrats! The '84 900s were (IMHO) the best year of the 8v turbos >and pretty rockin' cars... my '84 was great and is sorely missed... Gracias :) I've enjoyed it so far -- I got a pretty good deal on it, and though it's rough around the edges, it's alot of fun. >definitely needs to be done on a 160k car... buy only Bougicord or >Magnecor wires - don't buy Bosch wires as they aren't particularly >good. NGK or Bosch Platinum plugs are a good bet - I prefer NGK >over Bosch. You will likely have to special order the plugs as >most auto parts places don't stock them. Yeah, I'm going to have to special order all KINDS of things. I couldn't even find air and oil filters locally. > Also, check every last little bit ofvacuum hose - make [snip] > Failing all of this, your idle control valve could be out of wack - Cool, thanks for the info. >The Turbo/APC gauge measures both boost and vacuum. Thanks for the explanation; my mind is greatly eased now. I wondered why I could hear the turbo spooling up even when the needle wasn't going into the red ;) >I strongly recommend dropping $50 and buying a Bentley 8v manual for >your car... it'll have all the info you need and more... and it's well >worth the money. In fact, I've come to prefer the Bentley manual to >the "real" Saab service manuals in almost all respects. Amazon.com I've got the factory Saab manuals (came with the car), and while they're handy for photographs and specs and some instructions, most of their instructions leave a great deal to be desired, and there are no "here's how to tune up this car" sorts of things. I'll order that manual right now. Thanks for all the help, Justin... if you're ever in Southern Indiana, I'll buy you a beer (and let you drive the Swede Racer)! J.
