Dear James, Your description of your APC function sounds exactly right you only have to worry if the needle does not get near the red zone ie max boost when you give it some right boot or if it goes into the red zone and you feel a sudden loss of power. Do not try to adjust the APC unit without good reason if you want to get more performance its not as simple as just cranking up the boost control. Your cold running problem sounds familiar at this time of the year - could be a number of things (fuel enrichment / warm up regulator or the auxiliary air valve) Tune up tips; These cars won't run 100% if the ignition system is not 100% right this means good quality components; Leads, cap ,arm, and plugs (Bosch,Champion and if poss NGK for the plugs and be very sure not to set the gap to large it should be .6mm some specs give .8mm but this can give misfires on high boost and generaly does not feel as smooth.) Fuel filters don't usualy get clogged as the tank is plastic so there are no rust particles to suck up. If you are 16v and therefore LH Jetronic there is not much to adjust exept basic idle speed and a check that the timing is set at 16deg btdc at idle. On 8v if you have the Lambda system then its down to the correct functioning of the sensor etc. If you don't have a catalys t/ lambda etc you can check and adjust the mixture with a co meter - the manuals say 1.5% at idle but 2.5 - 3% is much better. Basic boost can be checked by disconnecting the solenoid electrical connection (above the radiator) and seeing how far you can get the needle into the orange section on the guage - it should be just bellow 1/2 way under load and the pedle to the metal - if its much more or much less than this you can adjust the actuator arm under the turbo (shorter for more boost and vice versa for less) Check all the vacume pipes and hoses for leaks and the breather hoses for blockages also while you are at it with the ignition timing check the ignition advances when you suck on the pipe to the capsule on the distributor - and if you have the puff it should retard when you blow but you have to blow very hard or else get a bike pump on the job. Thats all I can think of for now - I hope its some use. These cars when set up just right (especialy the T16) are very smooth and can be made to roll along at quite alarmingly speeds without much commotion. All the best John
