Subject: NOISY FUEL PUMP-PLEASE ADVISE

Can anyone advise on a noisy fuel system on my 1988 9000i (139k miles)? I've only recently acquired the car and I have a heavy vibration noise coming I believe, from the fuel pump, although because the vibration travels through the car, I can't be sure. (Previous owner said the noise had always been there in the 3 years he'd had the car!). I've had the fuel pump out and have run it 'dry' for a few seconds, and the pump doesn't seem unduly noisy, but this may be because it's not running under load. I've considered the possibility that the pump and it's reservoir/container (my description: not the proper one) may be touching the fuel tank, but I think not. Has anyone had a similar experience or can anyone offer advice before I take a chance and buy a new pump? Many thanks, in anticipation Alan.Morgannopsamo.net 1988 9000i 5sp 139k miles 1989 9000i S Auto 117k miles
