I recently changed the oil in my gearbox (84 900T16). It used to have really thick tranny fluid in it and as you can imagine this made gear selection a real pain in cold weather. The gear change is much better but I notice that the change from 1st to 2nd is really slow and notchy (it used to be even worse). If I go for a fast shift the box is really reluctant to give me 2nd. I have noticed that you have to wait for the rev's to drop down to a level suitable for 2nd gear. I know any gearbox will shift best when the syncro can match the speeds of the gears but this car has possibly the slowest 1st to 2nd shift of any car I have ever driven. However the 2nd to 3rd shift and 3rd to 4th are about twice as fast as 1st to 2nd and are really satisfactory. Is this a common feature on 900's? I have noticed that the shifting is slowly getting better the more mileage I do on this new oil. I am currently upto about 800 miles, how much more do think the shifting is likely to improve? Should I change the oil again in a few more thousand miles? Thanks in advance, NJH. -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own
