Subject: HELP, Not sure what is wrong!

Here's the scenario; Car: 87' 900 Turbo 16v 5spd Situation: Just got a new starter, new battery, new spark plugs... car was running sweet! After a long run on the Garden State Parkway my alternator belts went. The place it got towed to replaced the belts, however, on the drive home I realized something fishy with all the electrical components. When I got home I pulled in the driveway, turned the car off, then decided to restart the car. When I went to turn the key....NOTHING! Headlights, radio, power windows, etc. worked, ...but no ignition. WHY??? What on earth could be wrong now? Unless it's the alternator itself, what else in the engine could it be? I have an obvious feeling it has something to do with the ignition itself but don't know enough about it to fix it myself without some sort of direction or instruction, but I don't want to get screwed by some rip-off mechanic and pay an arm and a leg. I have the Hayes manual for my model but half of it still looks like Chinese to me anyway. Any suggestions or helpful info would be GREATLY appreciated.
