Subject: Re: 89 9000 headlight replacement?

Hien: The headlights on my 1990 9000 really stink too. Until recently I lived in the city and rarely needed decent lights. Now, living in the deer on road capitol of the world, I could really use a nice set of E-Code headlamps. But, I'm not yet ready to part with ~$400 when there are more delightful expenditures like a new heater core to spend it on! Barring the E-Code (European) replacement lights, one can change the headlamp bulbs. There are some high wattage aftermarket, not to any code lamps available. As far as I can tell, the jury is still out on those. At the recommendation of a Saab news group posting, I recently installed the 9004BL bulbs from NAPA. They are slightly brighter and whiter, and make a good difference. The headlamp pattern still sucks and I know my lenses are pitted, but the $20 for the bulbs was more agreeable than $400 or so for nice new lights. Have fun and see well. Tod.
