Its something they are trying to do, but yes, it is a crock. Don't go in to negotiate. decide what you want to pay, type it up as an offer, and fax it in. When they call you back start to deal. Its always better to ask for more then you expect to get, that way you backpedal to the price you're actually prepared to pay. Also, try an buy close to a month end, or quarter end. Dealeships are businesses, and they need to show their bank some numbers and also to qualify for rebates and incentives from GM. I got a 9-3 with sunroof, cd, trunk mat all for 34,700, MSRP was 37200. (Canadian). THen I got another 2800 off for my GM card points.
