I wonder if the synthetic oil is not allowing the hydraulic valve tappets to retain enough oil to be "pressurized" at idle on a cold start. But when you step on the gas, the higher oil pressure forces oil into the valve tappets, and they stop "clacking". Listen if this sound is right at the top of the head (usually around the no. 4 cylinder), when you rev up the engine with the engine cold. This is probably nothing to worry about if it is only when you first start the car, and not while the engine has been running for a while. Be Seeing You! Kevin
