As I recall, the original inline four cylinder Saab used in the 99 was a Triumph design, built by Triumph. Saab had *some* influence on how the engine was designed, and their input was incorporated into the design, but it was fundementally Triumph. The engine that replaced it (the B-block) was based on the Triumph design but was built by Saab in Saab factories, as has every engine Saab has used since, except for the GM 2.5, 3.0 and 3.0t V6 engines. Of these, only the 3.0t had any Saab work. -Justin
