I was worried stiff until I discovered it was merely caused by dry drive belts. My local Saab agent gave me an aerosol of drive belt lubricant, and after one application, all was blessed silence. As you have recently disturbed the belts to fit the water pump, it seems a possibility. That was my first Saab. It had 169,000 on the clock when I bought it, but ran perfectly. The previous owner attributed this to the fact that he had changed the oil every 1000 miles. I foolishly traded it in for a later model, just to get the 5 speed gearbox, but found the 5 speed very notchy compared to the silky, smooth 4. -- Peter Adams, Lincolnshire, England
