On the other hand, if I recollect correctly, there were some significant problems with some of the earlier years of NextGen 900's (not the classic 900, or the 9-3) I'm guessing that JR's 97 is one of those cars. I can't comment on the NG900, but I, and other family members, have run C900's, 99's, 96's and 9000's over the years, they are very strongly built (with the exception of seeming to have a gearbox pinion bearing weakness), reliable cars that survive abuse well. On top of that, they're a fun car to drive, despite being practical. I would agree with JR that *some* of the saab dealers I've come accross (UK) are useless. OTOH, some are very good. Whatever, on a car more than 3/4 years old I don't believe you need to pay main dealer prices, I use a independent who specialises in saabs (at 2/3 the hourly rate saab charge) to look after the car (actually, I do most of the work myself) - Mark.
