And has Saab changed the appearance of their vents in 20 years? A gimmick, maybe. Worthless, maybe not. While it's certainly a non-essential, there have been times when I've found the Black Panel feature to be useful. Always in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere (a good deal of Georgia qualifies for this designation.) I wish the cruise control indicator light was at least dimmed in the black setting, though. >Oh, and what advanced degree do you need to figure out their climate >controls? Or the cryptic labels on the sound system? The buttons for my quotidian climate control tasks are two: the up and down arrows next to the temperature display. If, say, I need the defroster longer than the computer expects, there is a button which shows the usual defroster icon and pair that show a fan blade plus an up or down arrow. When I'm done telling the system what to do, the AUTO button invites. My sound system has buttons cryptically labeled CD, Tape, and Radio, buttons numbered from 1-6, icons for play, stop, FF, and REW. The WB button threw me, until I hit it and got NOAA's weather band radio. Switching from FM1 to FM2 to AM isn't the slickest, but Saab's rebranded Clarion equipment isn't any different from an average Sony head-unit in that respect. Then again, I'm 5 years into a PhD program. If you ask me, that's clear evidence that I'm dumber than the average bear. :-) -D.
