I just swapped an 85 8v 5sp to an 86 16v with a dying automatic. the major differences were the oil pickup tube (different between the 5sp & autos), inner cv joints (not sure, auto - 5sp, 85 -86?), 5sp fluid level dipstick. The dipstick for the 8v will not work with the split 16v manifold. I just made an aluminum plug with a wire dipstick, but you could replace the side panel with a 16v panel. As long as the inner cv joints match, there should be no problem swapping in a trans from any classic Saab (up to 93) 900. 86 900s 87 900t
