Ken, Let me first thank you for some terrrific advice to myself and others in the NG. I have printed out and filed the information for Auto Parts Int. in Odenton, and thanks. Yes, I really do feel like I have to make this service trip to the dealer. 1. Because I bought the car there; 2. Because I have never since been back; 3. I have some warranty concerns, and had to make sure all my boxes were checked and pages stamped; 4. Because I was completely blown-away by a thread now under way in ALT.AUTOS.VOLVO dealing with a dealer refusing to reset a maintenance reminder light for a DIYer. Read there "Zippy"'s comments and the thread. It is kind of scary, and I was cowed. I will pick the car up this afternoon, and here is what was done: 25k service. (This is the laundry list where they check your fluids, etc.) I had no choice here, although the list of services seems to me long and, for a reasonable DIYer, kind of padded with bull. But I needed a database entry for the computer and the warranty stamp. For the fluid warning light issue, the pressure tested the coolant system and replace, under warranty, both upper radiator hose and water pump (!). "Good call," they told me. "We would not have normally pressure tested the cooling system." I asked for tranny fluid and filter change. Coolant will be changed as part of water pump replacement. Brake fluid will be flushed. "Saab has 5 OC's on the car, and they will be done under warranty." I have no clue as to what this means. "Engine drive belt is cracking, and we have an MR to replace the drive pulley bushing." a warranty issue, but I wish they had said something in English. I assume they are replacing the serpentine belt. Good, I did not want to do this myself. And $440 to replace all the brake pads. With pure gold, I am assuming. Please check out the VOLVO thread. If "Zippy" is right, and I expect he is, then I will not be at your friend's shop till the warranty period is over.
