I also found the light annoying. The irritation lasted about a week, after which I found I barely noticed it anymore. It can be quite useful at times. For example, it won't go on until the engine has warmed-up the cat converter, and if it wasn't for the light I wouldn't know I could go 45 mph in 5th gear. Hang in there, and you'll get used to it.
