Subject: Re: Why is manual better than automatic transmission?

The manual trans is better because it is lighter, has more efficient gearing and increases your gas mileage. It feels like you have more power with a manual trans. Its great if you drive long distances. If you are in traffic often you should probably get the auto. The only bad part about a manual is you have to replace the clutch. Your driving style determines how long it will last. Saab turbo owners usually go for manuals because a turbo Saab is much more responsive with a manual trans. It cruises at higher speeds on the freeway and passing is a blast. The auto trans feels heavy and you fuel consumption is worse. If the previous owner of the Saab drove it easily then the auto is fine. But.... if the owner gunned the engine at stops and abused it in any way.... You will pay big money when you have to replace it. (125K to 175K) Autos do protect the engine better than manuals because of the torque converter but the Auto is the weak spot. I imagine replacing one would cost well over $2000. A clutch is about $350 to $500. Thats why I only buy manual transmission Saabs but then again... I am partial to turbos and performance. Both cars are great.... do you want performance or do you want a traffic commuter? Debra Benjamin wrote in message ... >I am looking at 2 1989 900's. One is an S model, the other is not.
