Saab has been shipping their manual gearboxes with synthetic oil in them since '98 (maybe earlier). Only the trannys in the NG ('94+) had the warning against synthetic; I've used it in all my Saabs since my '74 99EMS (engine and tranny), including my current '82 900T (which still has the original tranny at 152K miles). I fail to see how synthetic oil could accelerate _any_ gear wear (ask your informant his rationale). IIRC, the possible detriment is to the synchronizers. --------------------- John R.
