Just for the record, here is what Saab ACTUALLY recommends in '99 9-3s (in America, so they're ALL turbocharged). This is the entire section titled Engine Oil on page 198: <begin owner's manual> Oil Grade: Saab Turbo Engine Oil or engine oil to API SH or ILSAC GF-1. The above grades of engine oil contain suitable additives. WE ADVISE AGAINST THE USE OF FURTHER ADDITIVES. Viscosity: 10W/30 or 10W/40 If these viscosities are unavailable, 15W/40 can be used. If the car is being used regularly in temperatures of -4F (-20C) or below, use 5W/30 or 5W/40 synthetic or semi-synthetic oil. For regular use at temperatures of 60F (15C) or above, use 15W/50 or 20W/50 oil. Oil capacity inc. filter (on changing) _ 4.0 l <end owner's manual> I have nothing to say about Saabs before the 9-3 except that the book is always a good starting point. As for people who claim that 15W-x or 20W-x or xW-40 or xW-50 is too thick for any turbocharged engine at any temperature... I'll follow the recommendation of the people who designed the engine, thanks. --Eoin On Tue, 16 Mar 1999 12:39:03 -0800, "John Weiss" <jrweissnopsamet*NOSPAM*.com> wrote: >What motor, what climate? > >With the turbo, 10W-40.
