Subject: Re: 9-3 convertible tops & durability

They normally wear off in 4-6 years depending on how often the top is opened. - Leave the top closed and theyīll last forever ; ) And about the care: DONīT CARE- that means: do not clean them often. That means: DONīT OPEN THE TOP WHEN ITīS DIRTY OR DUSTY/OR FROZEN! And when you clean it, use water, donīt scrubb with a soft brush, donīt use a top cleaner - they kill the cloth tops! Clean it when dirty (birds) immediatly or every 2 weeks. The problem with the solid and heavy SAAB top rod/frames is that the cloth scrubbs during opening/closing and driving. Something I found out: the black tops are less complicated than the blue or tan tops. The worst one is the tan top, the cloth seems always to be thinner in tan! One last thing Iīve learned: You can do anything, they wear off - and itīs a wear off part! Replace them all 5 years (3500 US$) and donīt think about them any more! (keep a good insurance!!!)
