I'm looking for replacement tires for my '86 900 by this weekend. I was very happy with the original Michelin MXL 185/65R15. They were rated at 40k miles and I got about 35k out of two sets. Now that the MXL model is discontinued, the closest Michelin is the MXV4. But since I don't want to spend the $90 plus per tire for them, which would top out over $400 for the complete set of four, I looked at a few other options at nearby stores. I found these offerings shopping today (price is less tax, %6 in PA) : --Futura at Pep Boys on sale for $240 right now. --Optima by Bridgestone at a local tire chain (Kost). They will be about $280. The Michelin MXV4 will be about $360. --Michlin Roadhandler at Sears for about $360. --Goodyear Spectra at KMart/Penski on sale for about $240. My criteria is : Saftey/handeling, treadware and price, in that order. I just use it to drive around town, and put very little mileage on it so I don't need performance, but rather reliability. What's a good inexpensive replacement to the original Michelins? Thanks, --Paul
