The *maximum* speed limit has not been 65 mph for some time now. AFAIK (and even this could be out of date) states can set whatever maximum speed they want, but if they want Federal highway funding they have to set the limit at 65 mph. IIRC Montana has a 100 mph limit for rural highways (of which there are a few in Montana... ;-) and there are parts of Nevada with *no* posted limit. Even in places where there are lower limits, they can be kind of a joke. I live on Long Island, where the highest posted limit is 55 mph. Good luck, however, finding a highway where the average speed (barring traffic jams) is below 70 mph. ;-) -- Mike Smith. No, the other one.
