The sun-sensor (the little half-spherical thing in the centre of the defroster cover), this device detect the sun intensity. 2. The compartment temperature sensor, located between the two buttons for the heated seats. 3. The set temperature on the ACC display. 4. The outside air temperature If the "temperature error" (difference between compartment temperature wanted by the software and the actual compartment temperature) is large and "negative" (cold outside) the car will start with a so called heat-up. Which means when coolant temperature have reached a certain value the air is directed towards the front windscreen, defroster. After a few more minutes the distribution is set to "heat", floor and windscreen. This is most likely the steady state distribution mode. When the outside temperature is high, the "temperature error" is positive, the software will start with a cool-down in stead. Usually all air through the facia vents. Depending on the sun intensity I would guess that the distribution mode is switched from floor and windscreen (heat) to floor and facia vents (bi-level) around an outside temerature of 16-20°C. The reason why you don't have ant other distribution mode might be that the outside temperature is to low. If you want the ait through the dash vents and front floor you have to push "floor" and "vent" buttons simultaneously, but of course then you're not in AUTO mode any more. I hope this helped you Anders
