For the 1991-1995 models during the calendar years 1992-1996, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that there were 5 driver deaths and 3 other (passenger?) deaths in Saab 9000s. This very small sample gives the Saab 9000 an overall driver death rate is 40% of average. For comparison, Volvo 850 is 32% of average, Lexus ES300 is 30% of average, Nissan Maxima is 39, Cadillac Fleetwood is 32, Cadillac Seville is 40, and no others I noticed were as good or better.
